Our Story of Growth
and Service

From a small farm in the foothills of Kilimanjaro to one of Tanzania's leading agricultural training centres — over five decades of empowering youth and transforming communities.

Who We Are

Mission & Purpose

Kilacha Agriculture and Livestock Training Centre (KALTC) was established in 1971 by the Catholic Diocese of Moshi to serve the youth of the Kilimanjaro region and beyond.

We believe practical skills, grounded in moral values, are the foundation of sustainable livelihoods. Today KALTC operates as a fully integrated centre combining active farming, livestock management, construction material production, a fishery, and a nationally accredited training institute — all fulfilling one unified mission.

Core Objectives
01
Empower youth with practical skills in agriculture and livestock keeping, equipping them for employment and self-employment.
02
Create meaningful employment opportunities for the surrounding community and beyond.
03
Generate sustainable revenue to strengthen young people and support the long-term mission of the Church.
Our Journey

Five Decades of Progress

1971 Foundation
Established by the Catholic Diocese of Moshi
KALTC was founded under the ownership and vision of the Catholic Diocese of Moshi, beginning with core farming and livestock activities in the fertile foothills below Mount Kilimanjaro. The centre was conceived as a vehicle for youth empowerment, community development, and sustainable income generation for the Church's ministries.
1984 Training Begins
Kilacha Agriculture & Livestock Training Institute launched
After 13 years of successful farming, KALTC launched its formal training programmes, registering with VETA with an inaugural cohort of 25 students. This marked the transformation from a farm into a fully-fledged training institution.
2008 Accreditation
NACTE Registration & Diploma Programmes
A landmark year — KALTC received full accreditation from the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE), enabling Certificate and Diploma programmes in Agriculture aligned with the Ministry of Agriculture's national syllabus. Student capacity grew significantly.
2010s Diversification
Expansion into Construction, Fishery & Hospitality
The centre diversified to include a stone crusher, brickworks, fishery, and new training programmes in Hospitality & Tourism and Animal Health. The Kilacha brand became synonymous with quality across multiple sectors.
Today Present
300+ Students, 70+ Employees, Still Growing
KALTC now serves up to 300 students, employs over 70 permanent staff, and provides work to 10+ casual youth labourers. New products — including Kilacha Pork, and Fish are in development.
